Information

Our property has a small stone chapel right beside the farmhouse. It has been there for a long time — how long exactly has turned out to be a surprisingly tricky question. In this episode we finally give it the dedicated video it's deserved for three years: trimming back the overgrown bay laurel that had been winning an argument with the roof, exploring the interior, and spending a day driving around the Langa Astigiana visiting other field chapels to try to figure out when ours was built — and why.

Between an archaeologist/historian (Isis) and a historical geographer (Bertus), this should have been straightforward. It was not. But we did learn things we didn't expect to — about the plague, about a century-old procession through our village, and about the children who used to shelter here from summer storms on their way to school.

Siamo Isis e Bertus, una coppia belga-olandese che ha scelto di trasferirsi in Piemonte per restaurare una cascina di 200 anni. Se segui il nostro lavoro dall'Italia — benvenuto/a. Ci fa molto piacere.

We are Isis and Bertus — a Belgian-Dutch couple who moved to the hills of Piedmont, northern Italy to renovate a 200 year old cascina. We document the renovation, the garden, and the slower life we're building here. New videos every week.
